Password Protect your Local Drives in Computer

If you have a laptop or computer which you have to share with many people and your lots of important data is there which you don't want to share, then you must password protect it. Here are the steps by which you can do it without using any external application.

Step 1

Go to your start menu and open the Control Panel.

Step 2

Go to view option and make it to large icons.

Step 3

Here you will find the option of BitLocker Drive Encryption, click on it and you will find the list of all the drives in your computer.

Step 4

Now click on the drive you want to have Password access and click on Turn On BitLocker.

Step 5

Click on Use a Password to unlock Drive and choose a strong password and click next.

Step 6

Now for the recovery options, you will be asked how you want to backup your data. Choose it wisely and what suits you(here we have saved it to a file).

Step 7

Now here you will be asked how much of the drive space you want to encrypt, whether full or only the used space in the drive. Click on "Encrypt used space only".

Step 8

In the last step, you will be asked for the mode of encryption in which you have to click on New Encryption mode.

Step 9

Click on next and you drive will start encrypting. It will take several minutes and maybe more if the drive is loaded with lots of content.

Step 10

After the encryption is complete, restart your computer and you will find your media is password protected.
